Leading the way in accessible tourism has earned Lake Mac Holiday Parks a nomination in the Excellence in Innovation category of the Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards.

State of the art inclusive villas unveiled recently at its Swansea Lakeside, Blacksmiths Beachside and Belmont Lakeside sites boast technology that make holidaying much more accessible.

"These superb new villas have been specifically designed to truly cater for the inclusive tourism market," parks co-ordinator Garry Ellem said.

"The villas feature extremely spacious internal and external living spaces including industry leading facilities with automatic opening front doors, remote controlled blinds, electronically controlled kitchen benches and cupboards that can be raised or lowered at the press of a button."

Other new accessible features include a wheelchair pool ramp at Blacksmiths Beachside, a wheelchair pool hoist at Belmont Lakeside, an aquatic wheelchair and accessible playground carousel at Swansea Lakeside and communal facilities across all three sites.

With one in five Australians having additional accessibility issues, Garry sees entering the awards as a way of promoting Lake Mac Holiday Parks' leadership in this area and delivering results.

"We are trying to build awareness in the community that many people need additional accessibility services and facilities and meeting those needs is not just smart business for financial reasons, it is the right thing to do to deliver on the social responsibility we should take into our businesses," Garry said.

Lake Mac Holiday Parks cater for both local markets as well as many customers from further afield.

"We have a dedicated team of 32 that work across the various parks."

"A win would be rewarding for the whole team to reaffirm our direction and work on delivering and exceeding services for the community."
