A group of Hunter students have turned their COVID-19 experiences into a performance as part of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Schools' ASPIRE program.

Thirteen students performed I hope: Thoughts on a Pandemic at Civic Theatre on Thursday night to a small live crowd. It was also live streamed.
The original play, which centred on the 'lockdown' period of the pandemic, was prepared verbatim from interviews, diary entries and other recounts of COVID-19 experiences.

"All the words have previously been spoken," ASPIRE's director Anna Kerrigan said.
It touched on everything from home-learning to toilet paper; endless baking and missing out on sports; employment and unemployment; social isolation and social distancing; tiktok careers and health sector fears and mental health.
Ms Kerrigan said the students conducted rehearsals via Zoom and only got together for their first face-to-face session a week before the live performance.
"It was a pretty quick turnaround," she said. "They've done really, really well."
