"I think our chances are gone now after last week's heartbreaking loss," Payne said. "We definitely still want to be competitive and we might be able to rearrange the top four a bit."

Meanwhile, four members of Newcastle Hunter Community Rugby League's board have stepped down in the wake of last weekend's incident involving players and spectators from an A-grade match.
As of Friday the remaining three members of the NCHRL board have stayed on to assist with the final weeks of all competitions.
