As part of This Is Not Art 2020, Newcastle Art Space is hosting a young and emerging exhibition Zeitgeist to showcase experimental methods of painting, screen printing, installation, photography and interactive audio that aims to "push the traditional idea of what art is or can be".

Artists were invited by emerging curator and artist, Ash Campbell, who says, "I wanted an intimate exhibition of just 10 or so artists".
Zeitgeist will be online as well as in the gallery. The launch is Saturday, October 3, from 6pm, including covid-registration.
Blackstone Gallery is exhibiting Bloom with Grace, a pastel exhibition of florals by Stephie Clark. Clark is internationally renowned for her use of soft pastels, in this exhibition she presents a series of vibrant still life florals that reflect the distinctive and elegant nature of flower life-cycle.
Art Systems Wickham is exhibiting Australian Landscapes - Abstractions by James Milsom until October 11. Influenced by travels in the outback, his paintings are bold expressive abstracts using an plethora of overlapping lines, that dripping and interweave in spray-paint, oil paint and mixed media.
On show until Sunday, October 18 at Back to Back Galleries is the group exhibition, Where is My Mind? A ceramic and painting exhibition by emerging Newcastle artists Jen Lanz, Illeigh Hellier, Nicki Bates, Rachel Cullen and Brigette Beyer. While each artist presents works that reflects their own art practices, the group exhibition collectively explores the universal searching of self, the ungraspable notion of the mind as we learn to understand our place in the world.
At The Lock Up is miyarnuwimanha, which translates to "learning, becoming knowledgeable", a concept that is explored by Yamaji Wajarri, Dutch and English artist Nicole Monks. In this exhibition, Monks explores the innate and unconscious interconnectedness to Country, community and culture.
In Sydney Gallery76 on Queens Street is home to Newcastle artist, Gillian Benke's NEW TALES solo exhibition. Benke's highly detailed hand embroidered mythical creatures and other textile works are on display until November 1.
