Late inclusions in a modified Shute Shield program, Saturday's result lifted the Wildfires to 11th (of 13) on the points table, with two wins and a draw from their 12 games.
Penrith, also included in the competition at the 11th hour, finished winless and last.
It was a fitting reward for Wildfires coach Scott Coleman and his troops, who had about a month to prepare for the challenge of competing in Sydney's premier club competition.
Hunter wingers Nimi Qio and Hamish McKie each scored two tries against the outclassed Emus, as did powerful No.8 George Noa.
The Wildfires' other tries came from prop Matt Dewar, centre Chase Hicks and flanker Shawn Ingle.
The visitors led 24-7 at half-time and rammed home their advantage once play resumed after the interval.
Hunter's other win during the season was against Parramatta (28-15), while they drew 29-all with Manly.
While the hastily assembled team copped their share of blown-out scorelines from the established heavyweight, they showed enough potential to earn an invitation to return against next year, a proposal Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union officials are considering.
To complete a clean sweep on Saturday, the Wildfires won a high-scoring reserve-grade match 57-49 and also took out the Colts, 34-12.
The Wildfires women's squad had a week off, having already qualified for the Jack Scott Cup second-division grand final. They will face Sydney University 2, who beat Campbelltown 12-0 in Saturday's preliminary final, in the competition decider on Saturday.
Elsewhere in the Shite Shield's final round, Gordon beat Eastwood 29-24 at TG Millner Field to secure the minor premiership.
Gordon led 19-0 after three early tries but Eastwood were back within a point by midway thorugh the second half.
Gordon, who last won the title in 1998, will be joined in the finals by Norths, Eastwood, Eastern Suburbs, Randwick and Sydney Uni.
Once-mighty Randwick will need a massive form reversal after suffering a humiliating 81-24 loss to Easts on Saturday.
