A group of 10 youths targeted the Whitebridge ground on Sunday night, destroying a row of seats in the grandstand, breaking a roller door and graffiting a mower and buildings. Neighbours alerted police before more damage was done and anonymous tips since are helping track down suspects.
Azzurri host elimination finals on Saturday featuring Maitland in first and reserve grade. Magpies stalwart Paul Osland has already contacted Azzurri to offer their spare seats as replacements.
Charlestown secretary Roger Steel said about 16 seats were destroyed and Maitland's contribution, together with their own spares, would enable them to be ready for Saturday.
"We thought it was really nice of them to offer that," Steel said.
On the field, Azzurri should be full-strength after the return of Matt Tull (suspension) and Riley Smith (leg injury), but Maitland have lost Andrew Swan and Matt Comerford to season-ending knee injuries.
** Lake Macquarie have moved quickly to make a fresh start after their last-placed finish was sealed on Sunday with a 2-1 loss to Azzurri at Macquarie Field.
The club launched a new logo on Tuesday focusing on the name 'City' and dropping 'Roosters' from the title.
Under director of football Alex Butt, Lake Macquarie have recruited Daegal Richardson from Central Coast Mariners Academy as technical director and re-signed coach Josh Rufo for 2021.
