Following extensive inquiries, the man was arrested at a home on Willow Road, Springfield, about 6.30pm Sunday.
He was taken to Gosford Police Station, where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic), and two outstanding warrants.
The man was refused bail to appear at Gosford Local Court on Monday.
A critical incident investigation into the shooting, which is being led by detectives from the Homicide Squad, is under way.
All information will be provided to the Coroner who will determine the cause of death and make any findings about the events leading to the man's death.
