A DRIVER has been charged over a fatal crash which caused his passenger to be ejected from the vehicle in the Hunter overnight.

Emergency services were called to Anambah Road at Rutherford shortly after 9pm Saturday to reports a Ford utility left the roadway and hit a guard rail.
The front passenger, a 29-year-old man, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended and commenced inquiries.
The driver, a 33-year-old man, was arrested and taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing, before being taken to Maitland police station.
Police launched an appeal for both information and dashcam footage of the incident on Sunday morning.
Shortly after the appeal the man was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death - drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving (occasioning death).
The man has been granted conditional bail to appear at Maitland Local Court on Wednesday December 9. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
