The Marks Point woman, 38, spent the rest of the weekend behind bars after she was charged with six offences, including police pursuit, reckless driving and driving while disqualified. She will appear in Newcastle Local Court on Monday.
Newcastle City Highway Patrol officers saw a grey Nissan Qashqai travelling more than 20km/h over the speed limit on Hobart Road at New Lambton about 7.10pm.
The driver of the Nissan allegedly refused to pull over for police, triggering a pursuit. The Nissan sped along Lambton Road and Turton Road, travelling about 30km/h over the speed limit, before the car crashed into a set of traffic lights at the intersection of Young Road. Uninjured, the driver jumped from the vehicle and ran from police. After a scuffle, the woman was arrested.
