Newcastle drew with Brisbane 1-1 on Sunday evening at McDonald Jones Stadium to earn their first point of the campaign after 2-1 losses to Wanderers and Sydney.

The Jets led in the 16^th minute with a Tara Andrews header but conceded an Emily Gielnik equaliser in the 54^th minute against the run of play.

The home side struck great chances close to goal over or into the woodwork, or at keeper Georgina Worth, who made an excellent reflex save in the 90^th minute to deny substitute Sophie Harding.

Stalwart Andrews, though, remains Newcastle's only scorer this season and Wilson said her teammates needed to contribute.

"I think if we can continue to create chances, that's brilliant, but Tara's scored three goals in three games and we need other people to score as well," Wilson said.

"We can't just keep relying on Tara and for me I think that was probably one of the hardest chances to score.

"We created a few other ones that I thought could have been more simple, so we need to be a little bit more composed in front of goals and a bit more ruthless.

"It's a decision-making thing, a confidence thing, an experience thing. A couple of the girls, it's their first or second season playing W-League up front and we're trying to build into them that belief, so they just need to find that and obviously that composure."

However, Wilson was encouraged by the display against a Roar side boasting Matildas Katrina Gorry, Clare Polkinghorne and Gielnik.

"The performance was a little more reflective of where we're at and what our pre-season has been like," she said. "Some people might think it was just a really good, one-off performance from us, but that's the kind of performance, particularly that first half, that we want to keep maintaining and we know we can."

The Jets are scheduled to meet the Wanderers again on Saturday (4.05pm) at No.2 Sportsground and Wilson expected a different challenge.

"We came out of that game against Wanderers confident in what we could do against them," she said. "But they're a few rounds in, a couple of games under their belt. They were a lot more aggressive pressing against Sydney than what they were in the first round and what they were even against us.

"They got into a really compact block and weren't pressing overly aggressively when we were getting forward a lot, so I'm probably expecting them to come out really firing.

"They are obviously in a similar boat to us. They want to get more points, they've lost close games, so I think for us it's again about being composed and it's about taking it to them but being mindful of the fact they are probably going to come out firing.

"We just have to maintain our defensive structure and organisation, but for us it's more about what we need to do with the ball and what we need to do with the ball is continue being positive and a little bit more composed in front of goals."

She said Chloe O'Brien (hamstring) was likely to be missing again but her squad appeared to come through the Roar match unscathed.
