Day won the first heat of the apprentice jockeys' series at Gosford in December on the Annabel Neasham-trained Ruddock but has had no luck since in three rides. She sits equal sixth on 11 points, 16 behind leader Mikayla Weir with six heats and the final left.
"It would be good to get another win on the board and try and run down a couple of the leaders," Day said.
And she expects Whatsin ($8.50), trained by her boss Kris Lees, to be in the mix in the benchmark 68 handicap over 1350 metres from gate five. The mare has won two of her past three starts and she was second at her two previous.
"She's had four weeks between runs but she's obviously effective fresh and she draws to get a perfect run behind the speed," she said. "She's going well and 1350 should suit. She looks like she can run on any surface and won at the 1300 and 1400, so it looks ideal."
Day has five other rides on the seven-race card and the other chances look to be the Lees-trained Unearthed (race five) and Nathan Doyle's Rhythmic Pulse (six).
"It's good to get back on her," she said of Unearthed. "I won on her at her first start at Muswellbrook on a bottomless track. She was disappointing the next start but she probably needed to step up further, so I think the 1100 is perfect.
"Her trial was good. She finished only a couple of lengths behind a couple of nice horses, so she should have matured.
"Rhythmic Pulse, I don't know what happened the other day [when 12th at Wyong].
"It was a really hot tempo and it just didn't sustain it, but his runs before that, he was flying. He's drawn the widest but it might just give him a chance to get where he needs to get without much pressure. Hopefully he can bounce back."
Day had three weeks off over the Christmas-New Year period because of a rib cartilage injury but she returned to the winners' circle on Lillemor at Rosehill on Saturday for her 10th city victory of the season.
"It was actually good just to have a freshen up and be able to come back and get some decent rides and be able to kick a winner home. It's been really good.
"I definitely missed out on a couple of winners, but hopefully I'll make up for it."
