* There were no cases of local coronavirus transmission in Australia for a fourth day in the past five.

* Tuesday also marked a year to the day since a man from Wuhan - Australia's first confirmed COVID-19 case - flew in to Melbourne.

* NSW recorded zero new locally-acquired cases in the 24 hours to 8pm on Monday, for the second day in a row. Two additional cases were recorded in travellers in hotel quarantine.

* Premier Gladys Berejiklian said testing numbers will have to increase before residents are provided relief from restrictions.

* Ms Berejiklian fired barbs at counterparts in Victoria and Queensland, complaining their borders should be open to NSW.

* Victoria recorded no new locally-acquired cases of the virus for a 13th consecutive day, although three of four infections detected in hotel quarantine are from the Australian Open contingent.

* Two previously reported cases linked to the tournament have been deemed viral shedding but the 72 players aboard three impacted flights remain in strict quarantine.

* Prime Minister Scott Morrison said quarantine arrangements for people coming in for the tennis were fair, after complaints from players.

* He is keeping an open mind on providing more financial support for the tourism industry once JobKeeper wage subsidies end in March.

* Mr Morrison is also open to Queensland's push to make all international arrivals quarantine at remote mining camps instead of hotels.

* Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly said extra checks on the safety of a vaccine used in Norway won't delay its rollout in Australia.

* A federal politician accused Queensland's chief health officer of "fruitcake stuff" for suggesting coronavirus could have been spread at a Brisbane quarantine hotel via air conditioning.

* Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed three new cases were all acquired overseas and are in hotel quarantine, including one woman who returned from South Africa and two flight crew who have already departed Australia.

* Western Australia's government promised better transparency after it was not disclosed that several recovered COVID-19 cases were linked to the highly contagious British strain.

* The Northern Territory government moved to make the use of masks on planes and in airports mandatory.

* South Australia is keeping border restrictions in place for Sydneysiders despite a second day of no new COVID-19 infections in NSW.

* There were nine new virus cases recorded in Australia on Tuesday: four in Victoria, three in Queensland and two in NSW. All were diagnosed in hotel quarantine.

* The national death toll is 909: Victoria 820, NSW 56, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 6, SA 4, ACT 3. (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states).
