Show manager Brett Gleeson said the board had decided to postpone until the spring. The rodeo will proceed in February, with tickets on sale next week.
"We are looking at some time in September or October," he said. "We have to negotiate a date with the Agricultural Shows Council, which is our state peak body, and taking into consideration what other shows are on at that time as well as negotiate with the Showmen's Guild.
"We also have to look at other events on at the showground as well as events on in the city."
The three-day event held at Maitland Showground is the oldest continuous agricultural show in mainland Australia.
Newcastle Regional Show is slated to proceed from March 5 to 7.
