Australia Day in the Hunter looks a whole lot different this year with a string of festivities scrapped due to coronavirus restrictions, but there are still plenty of events to keep the family entertained.

NEWCASTLE:
Pool Parties
Splash into summer with inflatables and fun activities.

Enjoy food trucks, produce stalls and entertainment for the whole family.
Richley Reserve

Fort Scratchley firing of the guns
Join the time-honoured tradition of the firing of the guns at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
Tunnel tours will not be available on the day however all exhibition rooms will be open and guests can enjoy Morse code demonstrations.
LAKE MACQUARIE
While the Lake Mac Festival for 2021 has been cancelled the COVID-safe citizenship ceremony at Rathmines Theatre will proceed as planned on 26 January 2021.The Citizenship Ceremony will welcome more than 40 new citizens from across the globe.
PORT STEPHENS
Pools at Tomaree, Tilligerry and Lakeside are open for a series of COVID-safe parties including BBQ lunch, performers and pool games.

Karuah RSL is also holding an event from 11am to 3pm including a fresh produce competition and an auction with proceeds going to the local Rural Fire Service.
Tomaree Aquatic Centre are holding a movie night. 'Red Dog' will be showing from 8pm to 10pm.
MAITLAND
Maitland Big Australia Day Breakfasts are on again hosted by some of the local Lions and Rotary clubs and will be located at RH Taylor Reserve in Lorn, Whitewater Adventure Park in Chisholm, Chelmsford Oval in Metford and Hartcher Field in Telarah. The community are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and camping chairs to enjoy a free BBQ breakfast, amusements, lawn games and live music from 7.30am to 12.00pm.
At 10am, residents should keep their eyes peeled to the sky to see vintage Tiger Moths flying all over Maitland.
There will also be free pool entry from 10am to 4pm at both Maitland and East Maitland Aquatic Centres where the splash pad and inflatables will be available. From sunset to 11pm, iconic Central Maitland buildings, The Maitland Post Office, The Riverlink and 437 High Street (previously known as Taylors of Maitland), will be transformed with vibrant lighting projections.
