Mason was not expecting Sonic Nismo to beat the exciting Michelle Lill-trained More Sauce when the pair stepped up to 450 metres for the first time.
However, Sonic Nismo started well from box five to lead and hold out More Sauce (seven) before finishing the stronger by a length in 25.03 seconds. It took his record to eight wins in 12 starts, while More Sauce went to seven from 10.
Mason was also expecting a tough time for Bonnie's Reward from box six, but she gathered speed quickly to lead her 5th grade 400m event before holding on late by three quarters of a length in 22.89 for back-to-back wins.
In the 1-3 wins series final (400m), Mason was second with Suzie Nismo as the Evelyn Harris-trained Double Display won. Odds-on favourite Impress Troy was second-last after he was slowly away then checked.
Robert and Natina Howard had wins with Foxzami Ferrari and Mystery Rules respectively. Mystery Rules was in a dead-heat with the Daniel Flanagan-trained Captain Muddy. Flanagan won the next race with Nitroglycerine to land his own double.
