It was another weekend of spirited auctions across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie with the biggest talking point being a hot result in New Lambton.
First National Newcastle City's Mathew Iuliano took a renovated five-bedroom house at 16 Clarence Road to auction last Saturday with a guide of $930,000. There were 22 registered bidders at the on-site auction, conducted by Luke Jones of Reynolds Auctions.
The weatherboard home was positioned on a north-facing block 442 square metres in size with rear access via Clarence Lane.
Bidding opened at $1.2 million with six of the registered bidders active and Jones' gavel finally fell at $1.61 million, which is understood to have been $580,000 above reserve. The property had attracted over 200 inspections throughout its marketing campaign.

There were three bidders competing for a fully renovated three-bedroom house on a 651 square metre block at 5 Cowper Street, Charlestown. First National's Tom Lemke marketed the property with a guide of $650,00 to $700,000. It sold under the hammer for $712,500.
In Glendale, a street record of $762,000 was set at the auction sale of a dual-level, four-bedroom brick house at 80 Graham Street. Belle Property Lake Macquarie's Anthony Di Nardo marketed the home with a guide of $675,000. There were five registered bidders with an opening bid of $650,000.
A 1920s home with a pool on nearly 700 square metres of land at 127 Gordon Avenue, Hamilton South that was marketed with a guide of $1.29 million to $1.39 million by Street Property's Damon Sellis sold at auction last Saturday for $1.4 million.
Interest was a mix of first home buyers, developers and investors for a house with a dual street frontage at 45 Delauret Square, Waratah West that was marketed by Robinson Property's Mike Flook for $580,000 to $630,000. The property sold at auction for $640,000.

Robinson Property's Mike Flook has reported strong interest ahead of Saturday's on-site auction of a five-bedroom residence with a pool in a sought-after position of Merewether. Mr Flook will take 79 Janet Street to auction at 11.15pm with a guide of $2.7 million to $2.9 million.
He also has a "large", single-level villa on around 370 square metres of land at 1/92 Curry Street, Merewether headed for auction at 1pm with a guide of $1.1 million to $1.2 million.
