It has been a while since multiple winner Nathan Stewart stood on the victory dais in his home-town event, but the 42-year-old plans to leave nothing in the tank as he chases another Sparke Helmore Triathlon title in Newcastle on Sunday.

The Pelican triathlete has won the event several times, the last around 10 years ago. After some time away from the sport he placed third last year and feels fitter for this year's standard distance of 1500-metre swim, 37-kilometre cycle and 10km run.
The race doubles as the NSW standard distance championship.
"It's one of the hardest courses there is," Stewart said. "You climb King Edward Park five times on the bike. It is a hardman's course. If you win this race it's because you were the best out there.
"I've been back training for a while now and feel like I am going pretty well. We'll see how I go against the young guys on the weekend."
There will also be a sprint distance race of 750m swim, 22km cycle and 5km run and an enticer course (300m swim, 12.5km bike and 2.5km run).
It will complete a weekend of multi-sport racing in Newcastle.
On Saturday, world champion Lauren Parker chases her third straight home-town victory in the City of Newcastle Paratriathlon.
The City of Newcastle Aquathon will also be staged on Saturday.
