I first met Taya in 2017 when she had her mind set on making a short film - which she had scripted - about a woman fighting a man in the boxing ring. She was a blue-eyed blonde 19-year-old from Bar Beach, and had a distinctly direct approach to well, just about everything in life.
At the time, Taya was heading for a career in acting and film.
She was training and boxing seriously for the movie, and did all of the boxing herself.
She made the short boxing film (Fight Like a Girl) and continued to find acting roles and get involved in other short film projects.
Now, she's popped up as the founder of Goldie's, a dress-for-hire business with a shopfront in Hamilton. She's the same no-nonsense young woman I met four years ago.
She saw a gap in the market for dress hire in Newcastle and made up her mind that she had the ability to fill it. Every woman needs a friend and an honest opinion when they are getting dressed up, and that's exactly what Taya has been determined to provide - along with a huge collection of serious dresses.
Herald contributing writer Jade Lazarevic has sized up Taya pretty well in her story on Goldie's in Weekender. Check it out here.
