There were 10 registered bidders for a three-bedroom house on a "lifestyle block" 1372 square metres in size with district views at 6 Cressington Way, Wallsend.

It was marketed by Mick Phillips, of Belle Property Lake Macquarie, with a guide of $650,000 and sold under the hammer for $809,000.

According to Australian Property Monitors data, the house had sold for $590,000 in January of last year through another agency. The previous highest sale for Cressington Way was $745,000 paid in 2017.

APM data showed Wallsend experienced 5.2 per cent growth last year with the median residential sale price rising from $485,000 in 2019 to an equal-record high of $510,000 in 2020. The median sale price for Wallsend was also $510,000 in 2018.

In Mayfield, an updated three-bedroom, two-bathroom home at 68 Upfold Street marketed by Belle Property's Sam Taylor sold at auction for $823,000.

APM data shows the previous highest mark for Upfold Street was $688,000 in June last year. It also shows growth of 8.1 per cent in 2020 with the median sale price rising from $555,000 in 2019 to an equal-high of $600,000 last year to match 2018.

Another record was established when a three-bedroom weatherboard house on a 631 square metre block at 32 Angus Street in Waratah West sold under the hammer for $730,000.

The property was marketed by McGrath New Lambton's Todd Mason with a guide of $560,000 to $600,000. Nearly 200 groups inspected the property and there were 11 registered bidders at auction with a local investor outbidding a Sydney investor, who was bidding over the phone.

The result surpassed the previous highest sale in Angus Street of $568,000, set in 2015. The median sale price for Waratah West rose from $507,500 in 2019 to an all-time high of $566,250 last year, according to APM data.

There were 11 registered bidders for a tri-level residence with five bedrooms, a pool plus city and coastal views at 79 Janet Street in Merewether.

The property was marketed by Robinson Property's Mike Flook and while the sale price was not disclosed, the Newcastle Herald understands the property was secured for in excess of $3.4 million.

A three-bedroom villa at 1/92 Curry Street, Merewether marketed by Mr Flook also sold at auction last weekend for $1.1 million.

This Saturday, First National Newcastle City's Leo Della Grotta takes a three-bedroom home that is on the market for the first time in 70 years to auction at 222 Beaumont Street, Hamilton South at 2.15pm. It is on a 529 square metre block.
