Cider's big day out
Wollombi's Incy Wincy Cyder has a busy March 13 planned. It also happens to be Australian Cider Day. They have a three-course, cider-inspired lunch at Laguna's Great Northern Trading Post from noon ($30 per person, phone 4998 8244 to book), followed by a dinner at Panino Restaurant in Wollombi that coincides with the launch of the 2019 vintage and new-look "cyder" bottle. The two-course dinner costs $60 per head. Phone 4998 3403.
Full Throttle Box
Full Throttle BBQ at Beresfield has introduced the Full Throttle Box on Friday and Saturday nights. It's $110 and includes brisket, pulled pork, chicken wings, kransky, fries, corn, honey carrots, green beans, onion rings, potato salad, coleslaw, pickled onions, potato crisps and sauces.
'Flexitarian' menu
Free burgers. That should be enough to catch your attention but wait, there's more. On Saturday, March 6, Burger Urge at Green Hills and Glendale will give away 3500 snack size Plant-Based Cheeseburgers from the Flex Menu, which is built on plant-based protein. Burger Urge CEO Shawn Kerr says customers are increasingly adopting a "flexitarian" approach and cutting back on their meat intake without scrimping on taste, quality or serving size.
Autumn degustation
Chef Shayne Mansfield has been busy working on some menu changes at The Flotilla. The Wickham restaurant is also hosting a featured event for Newcastle Food Month. It's called Natural Wines + Autumn and is a five-course degustation dinner. Tickets at newcastlefoodmonth.com.au.
