According to police, Anna Bay residents have reported being "menaced by a rider" of an unregistered green motorbike.
On Saturday police camped out at Robinson's Reserve awaiting the rider and about 5pm the alleged offender was spotted.
Officers attempted to stop the motorbike but the rider tried to outrun police, before the bike got bogged in grassland. When police ran toward the rider, the person dropped the bike and ran off onto the beach, escaping arrest. Police seized the bike and are now hunting the alleged offender.
"We are appealing for information to help us identify the rider of the motorcycle depicted," a statement from Port Stephens police said.
"You can ring us at Raymond Terrace Police Station on 49837599 - you can remain anonymous."
Police are also looking for information on a second motorcycle seen riding on the beach. The motorbike is described as red and white.
