Some of the phenomenal 2021 line-up of events, produced by and featuring female artists include burlesque, cabaret, live theatre, music, stand-up, and poetry.
The festival runs March 17 to 21 with more than 100 events across 11 venues.
Festival director (and founder) Phillip Aughey says this year's program is "bigger, bolder and brighter" than ever before.
With new vision and support, the festival is also extending its offerings, putting on the first ever Dubbo Fringe, May 6-8, which includes Newcastle and Dubbo acts, plus other touring acts.
The 2020 Newcastle Fringe festival was stopped dead in its tracks by the pandemic, but has come back even stronger.
A few of the events featuring some extraordinary women performers:
Burlesque
Bang Bang Bandit Variety Show, a production filled with dance and allure with a wild west twist. "One of the best shows in Sydney. Always brilliant and different. If you miss these shows, you'll kick yourself" says a previous patron (Duncan Sharpe).
OMG-WTF is a heady mix of burlesque, circus, drag, sideshow and magic, this show is so hot it will leave you gasping...for more!
Cabaret
Disenchantment: A Cabaret of Twisted Fairytales, Black Starr Cabaret, Mad Bitches and Unplanned Melodies Cabaret. Each possesses unique music, dance and style, leaving audiences thoroughly entertained.
Comedy & Poetry
Girls to the Front will feature a showcase of poetry and poetry films by women and gender diverse poets.
The Art of Falling in Love by Eddy Rockefeller
Who Let The Dyke Out? by Lauren Budden
Wine Mums Live. Laugh. Love by Jen Mackie and Maddie Parker.
Other highlights
Besides events that draw on the power of women performers, the festival includes a bundle of other shows:
Gaybies: the hotly political and deeply personal show by Dean Bryant. It's a moving piece of verbatim theatre that tells the story of children who have grown up with gay parents. Drawn from interviews with children aged four to 40, they are authentic accounts of family life.
Camino Man: the heartwarming and hilarious tale of one man's journey of self-recovery by walking the Camino del Notre and Camino Finisterre.
