While pleased with pushing Broadmeadow and Maitland in the opening two rounds of the Northern NSW National Premier League season, last year's wooden spooners have minimal to show for it on the competition ladder.
Lakes finished 2-all with Magic, both scoring and conceding after the 90th minute.
The Roosters then let in three goals over 16 minutes of the second half against the Magpies, going down 3-2 having found the back of the net first and last.
Overall we're disappointed we don't have more points.
- JOSH RUFO
"Overall we're disappointed we don't have more points," Rufo said.
"We've had six points in our hands and ended up with one.
"On the other side of it, we're in those positions and now it's about taking advantage of that. Game smarts and being a bit more clinical in front of goal.
"But the positives are we've created lots of chances and there's plenty of games to go."
The challenge doesn't get any easier for Lakes, who host perennial heavyweights Edgeworth at Macquarie Field on Sunday (4:30pm).

"We're solely focused on us and trying to play our own style. We haven't changed our approach against any of the teams and we have no intention of changing," Rufo said.
The mentor has been particularly impressed with Campbell Ross, who scored the opening goal for the Roosters last start, as well as new recruits Peter McPherson and Nick Cowburn.
