Willott, reigning player of the year both at home and in Sydney, found the back of the net either side of half-time to help the Blues beat the Lions 2-0 in the local derby.
The first was a field goal and the second came from a short corner.
"I thought we played well and controlled the game," Norths coach Dave Willott said.
This follows a 2-1 win for Norths against four-time defending premiers Gosford on the Central Coast last weekend.
Souths began the year with a 6-0 triumph away to Maitland.
The last time Norths and Souths had met, prior to this round-two encounter, was a controversial semi-final replay six months ago.
Elsewhere on Sunday and visitors Wests lost 3-0 to Gosford while the Rams and Uni had a 3-all draw at Maitland.
