A woman who rampaged through Newcastle West in a ute last year, smashing into cars after a dispute, has been sentenced to 28 months in jail, with 16 months non-parole.
Kristianne Francis Bycroft previously pleaded guilty to one count each of predatory driving, using an offensive weapon with the intent to commit an indictable offence, reckless driving, not giving particulars to the other driver and possessing a prohibited drug.
According to court documents, Bycroft had been involved in a dispute over money with a man at the KFC carpark on Steel Street about 6.15am on November 13 before the man drove from the scene.
She got into a ute and chased the man through several nearby streets, ramming the vehicle, narrowly missing pedestrians and hitting three other cars - including one at the busy intersection of Hunter Street and Stewart Avenue.
Footage of the incident went viral online. Some of that vision was played in court on Friday.
Bycroft's defence lawyer said her client accepted full responsibility and had experienced a "high degree of angst, shame and humiliation".
Magistrate Janine Lacy said the incident appeared to be "an act of road rage that was motivated by a perceived need for retribution".
"I would describe her actions as nothing other than dangerous and despicable," she said.
Bycroft's jail sentence was backdated to November, 2020, to account for the five months she has already spent in custody.
She was also fined $1000 and disqualified from driving for three years.
