EARLIER REPORT: THE M1 Pacific Motorway is expected to remain closed for several hours northbound between Somersby and Ourimbah after an early-morning car rollover.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 6.45am Monday to reports of a multi-vehicle accident.
A van involved in the crash had rolled over and ended up on its side. A man, believed to be 22 years old, sustained suspected spinal injuries in the crash.
The patient was treated by paramedics at the scene and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter critical care medical team.
He was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
Crews from Tuggerah and Kariong Rural Fire Brigade, as well as the police crash investigation unit, remained on scene at 8.30am.
Motorists are being diverted off the M1 Motorway at Kariong Interchange and can use the Central Coast Highway and Pacific Highway to rejoin the M1 Motorway at Ourimbah Interchange. One of three southbound lanes is also closed.
