The NJC have hosted the standalone The Hunter race day the past two years at Newcastle Racecourse and they will conduct a third in 2021.
However, the club is line to run more standalone city meetings over the winter after being pencilled in on the Racing NSW race diary for programs on July 17 and August 14.
The changes come in response to regular criticism last winter from participants about the consistent heavy Sydney tracks made available for Saturday racing while Newcastle's all-weather course proper surface was regularly in the good range.
While the July 17 program online already displays city level prizemoney of $130,000 races across the Newcastle Racecourse card, the meeting is not guaranteed to come to Broadmeadow.
Racing NSW chief operating officer Graeme Hinton said the meetings were being looked at.
Hinton said the NJC were keen to have at least one of the meetings and Racing NSW were working with the ATC "who have them at the moment and have the funding in place" about a deal.
Another city meeting would be a coup for the NJC, who have received widespread praise for their main track since Racing NSW's $11.2 million redevelopment of it in 2016-17.
** Star jockey Hugh Bowman will make the trip to Newcastle on Wednesday to partner Doomben Cup equal favourite Mugatoo in a trial.
The Kris Lees-trained All Star Mile winner is down to contest the 1200m open trial.
The Australian Bloodstock-owned gelding, which gave Lees his first Newcastle Cup last spring, was the TAB $5 joint favourite with Sir Dragonet for the $700,000 Doomben Cup (2000m) on May 22.
