Simon Lindsay Pollock, 38, was wanted on three outstanding warrants when police tried to pull his Toyota HiLux over on Government Road at Nelson Bay about 11.15pm.
Police say Mr Pollock accelerated away, triggering a pursuit through Nelson Bay, Salt Ash and Medowie, which reached speeds of up to 130km/h.
Mr Pollock's HiLux allegedly struck two police cars in Ferodale Road at Medowie, with the ute continuing at low speeds due to sustaining significant damage.
No police were injured.
Mr Pollock got out of the ute on Federation Drive and ran into bushland about 11.50pm, police said.
Police called in PolAir and Mr Pollock was found hiding in the bush. He was arrested and when police searched the ute they allegedly seized a homemade firearm, a starter pistol, methamphetamine, and jewellery believed to be stolen.
