Mr Lemke marketed the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home on a block 308 square metres in size at 70 Young Street with a guide of $1 million.
It attracted 130 groups to inspections throughout the three-week campaign with a mix of local interest as well as out-of-town buyers looking to relocate.
The home had sold for $750,000 in September of last year in an original condition when it was on the market for the first time in around 47 years.
It had since undergone a renovation without the home's lay-out being changed much. A second bathroom and a rear deck were added and the home was updated throughout.
"In the past people would think that was crazy to pay that much but it was just a really neat, renovated home with nothing to do and someone could walk straight into it," Mr Lemke said.
"You'd pay the same in Hamilton South, parts of Merewether. The interest leading up to it was up to about $1.05 million. There were four registered bidders at the auction with two left from about $1.1 million fighting it out."
It is believed to be the third highest residential sale for Carrington. A terrace in Young Street sold for $1.5 million in 2017, according to Australian Property Monitors data, and a stunning church conversion at 95A Young Street sold for $1.45 million in December.
Hamilton Street in Kahibah has its first sale over $1 million after a strong auction result achieved by Belle Property Newcastle last Saturday.
Katie Kepner marketed a four-bedroom house at 47 Hamilton Street with a guide of $850,000 to $900,000. It attracted 135 groups throughout its campaign and six registered bidders to the auction.
The property sold under the hammer for $1.065 million. It eclipsed the $860,000 previous street high sale which came for No.5 only three days earlier.
There were four registered bidders for a three-bedroom home at 20 Deborah Street in Kotara South that First National Newcastle City sold at auction last weekend for $760,000.
Robinson Property sold a renovated four-bedroom home at 36 June Street in Merewether at auction for $1.675 million.
Auction action on Saturday
First National Newcastle City take circa 1916 residence Woodbine at 43 Gordon Avenue, Hamilton East to auction at 10:30am on Saturday with a guide of $3 million to $3.3 million.
In Hamilton South, a single-level, three-bedroom home on a north-facing block of 550 square metres at 209 Kemp Street goes under the hammer with a guide of $1.29 million to $1.39 million at 2.30pm. It is on the market for the first time in 58 years and is being sold by Street Property.
Belle Property Lake Macquarie have a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home on nearly 800 square metres of land at 7 Buttermere Drive in Lakelands set for auction at 12.30pm. A guide has not been disclosed but the Newcastle Herald believes expectations are in the low $900,000 range.
They also have a contemporary five-bedroom house at 102 Berkeley Street, Speers Point set for auction at 2.30pm with a guide of $1.475 million.
