The 36-year-old was one of several players off contract this season and he is yet to sign on for another year.

However, he was not among those farewelled at the presentation night at McDonald Jones Stadium and he remains in talks with the club, who are yet to name a successor to coach Craig Deans.

Retiring captain Nigel Boogaard was farewelled along with leading scorer Roy O'Donovan, Ali Abbas, Matt Millar and Jack Simmons. Also leaving are loan players Luka Prso, Ramy Najjarine, Liridon Krasniqi and Syahrian Abimanyu.

Deans announced he was stepping down as coach last week but he could remain involved with the club in another capacity. He paid tribute to Topor-Stanley, who has played every minute of the past four seasons.

"He is a wonderful leader and consistent player," Deans said. "In a difficult year, he is someone who is reliable in every training session and game. He has a wonderful attitude.

"He sets a wonderful example for every player. It's invaluable for the team and me as a coach. His football ability speaks for itself but the stuff off the field and behind the scenes has been enormous for the club."

As of next season, the player of the year award will be named after Boogaard, who retired as the club's longest-serving captain.

O'Donovan, 35, won the club's golden boot with seven goals in a season where they netted a league-worst 24 in finishing 11^th on the ladder.

The Men and Women of Football named Thurgate as their player of the year. Thurgate became the first winner of the Craig Johnston Medal, after it was renamed from the Ray Baartz Medal.

Rhianna Pollicina was named the club's W-League player of the year.

Coach Ash Wilson said "Mini" consistently brought passion and competitiveness to training and games.

"She is a highly technical player with great awareness, which saw her trouble defences and create opportunities for teammates, as well as score a couple of times herself," Wilson said.

"Coming back into the W-League after a few seasons out, Mini worked hard to take her opportunities and showed great pride in representing the Newcastle Jets which contributed to a number of impressive performances for the club."

Hannah Brewer earned the Cheryl Salisbury Dedication Award from the Men and Women of Football.

Tara Andrews was the W-League side's golden boot, Tessa Tamplin was named the team's rising star.

The Rising Star Awards were a new addition to the presentation and the male honour went to 16-year-old Archie Goodwin.

Players of the year from 2019-20 were also honoured, after that presentation night was abandoned because of COVID. Steve Ugarkovic, who switched to Wanderers mid-season this campaign, was the A-League recipient and Cassidy Davis the W-League winner.
