From a wide gate, Royal Gamble sat near the rear of the field in the opening race on Saturday night before coming with a five-wide run and winning by a half-neck in a 1:54:7 mile rate.
The six-year-old has been a consistent performer at Menangle over all distances but it was his first win over the longer trip. He now has $145,132 in stakes, 13 wins and 33 placings in 68 starts.
"He's pretty versatile so it doesn't really matter [about distances]," Callaghan said. "He's had plenty of placings down there over that distance.
"Next week I'll probably take him back down there for the open class race. He's got to step up again now, so we'll see how he goes."
It followed victory for Callaghan with Hidden Delight at Newcastle on Friday night.
"She's won her last four at Newcastle now," he said.
"At her previous start at Menangle, she was a little bit unlucky. She got beat by two metres in quick time, and didn't have a lot of luck at the top of the straight.
"There's a suitable race at Newcastle on Friday so we'll probably back her up there."
