Newcastle Olympic
Position: First, 30 points. Season so far: The only blemish has been a 2-0 loss to Broadmeadow in round two. A season-ending Achilles injury to captain and centre-back Sophie O'Brien was a big blow but they picked up Jorjia Hogg from Adamstown and now have former W-League centre-back Stacey Day coming off the bench. Last year's WPL player of the year Jemma House has found her stride again, scoring 15 goals in eight outings. Coach Harmonie Attwill: "I don't think we've hit our best yet. We've had some good wins, we've had some important wins but there's also some growing still to do."
Broadmeadow Magic
Position: Second, 28 points. Season so far: Magic went eight games unbeaten before succumbing 1-0 to Olympic in round nine. Goalkeeper Alison Logue has proven pivotal in many matches and striker Ash Brodigan has produced 12 goals in 11 appearances. Coach Jake Curley: "I'm happy with how the team is progressing. We need to improve finishing and decision-making and, once we get those areas right, we will be a challenging team to play."
Warners Bay
Position: Third, 19 points. Season so far: The Panthers overcame a humiliating 5-1 loss to Olympic in round one to become the first side to take points off Magic in a 2-2 draw by round seven. But inconsistency is proving their biggest hurdle. Coach Craig Atkins: "We're in the top three with a game in hand, so I think we're in a really good spot, but we need to get some consistency back and do that pretty quick."
Maitland
Position: Fourth, 18 points. Season so far: The new kids on the block are showing they have what it takes to be a top-four side this year and a 2-0 win over third-placed Warners Bay last Saturday could prove a turning point. Coach Keelan Hamilton: "I'm exactly where I'd hoped we would be. I think we're a hard team to play against, which was what our first goal was to be, and I think our football is becoming very stable."
Adamstown
Position: Fifth, 16 points. Season so far: This is the second season in Herald WPL for many of the young Adamstown players and that was evident in last round's stunning come-from-behind win over Charlestown as the team continues to grow in confidence and belief. Coach Ryan Campbell: "I'm happy with how we're playing overall but probably not as happy with our results. Hopefully, the game on the weekend is a bit of a turning point."
Charlestown Azzurri
Position: Sixth, 12 points. Season so far: Azzurri have led on several occasions only to be over-run in games. They have plenty of experience and quality in the squad but are not yet a 90-minute team. Coach Niko Papaspiropoulos: "We're not that far away but we've got to now pick up a few more results and just keep working."
Mid Coast
Position: Seventh, four points. Season so far: A mounting injury toll has decimated Mid Coast but the young side have still shown in patches they are capable of causing some upsets if they can get players back. Coach Michael Grass: "My goals right now are I've got to try to get some troops back on the park. We had 20 players across two teams last weekend."
New Lambton
Position: Last, 0 points. Season so far: It's been a tough first half to the season for the Eagles, who are in a rebuilding year. They have scored just five goals in 11 outings and conceded 51 but recent additions, including former W-League striker Jenna Kingsley, should bring some stability in the second half of the year. Coach Maddy Searl: "It's a hard slog but we're getting there. We've got a target of how many wins we want to achieve before the end of the season."
