Newcastle triathlete Aaron Royle has helped Australia secure the full complement of quota spots for Tokyo but his selection for a second Olympics remains up in the air.

Royle, who made his Games debut in Rio five years ago, managed to narrowly keep his position inside the top 30 rankings despite a stomach bug seeing him pull out mid-race at the World Triathlon Cup in Mexico on Sunday night (AEST).
His previous points scored during the now-closed Olympic qualification window, coupled with wins to Luke Willian and Jaz Hedgeland at the Oceania Triathlon Championships in Port Douglas on Saturday, means the Aussies have earned a maximum allocation of six places for Tokyo.
Royle (30th), Willian (28th) and Jacob Birtwhistle (5th) got the job done in the men's competition. Hedgeland (29th), Natalie Van Coevorden (24th) and Ashleigh Gentle (13th) were successful in the women's draw.
Outside of Birtwhistle and Gentle, who have both already been nominated by Triathlon Australia, the other Olympic berths are discretionary.
The team for Tokyo is expected to be announced next week.
Individual events at the Games will be followed by a four-person mixed relay.
