A builder, Stewardson had six stitches in his hand after a work accident. He sat out the 8-0 win over Port United in the FFA Cup but is confident that will be right for the clash against rivals Newcastle Olympic on Sunday.

"He was lucky he didn't take off half his hand," coach Damian Zane said. "He told me that the doctor ruled him out of the Cup but reckoned he would be OK for Olympic."

A Magic junior, Stewardson made his run-on debut in the 2-1 win over Olympic at home.

"I started him that night because I knew it meant a lot to him," Zane said. "He was the leading goal-scorer in reserve grade last year. He loves the club and has been doing really well. We are not the biggest team and he adds a bit of physicality to us."

** The match between Broadmeadow and Weston to decide NNSW's second representative in the main draw of the FFA Cup is likely to be played next Wednesday night. Hosts Magic had hoped to play tonight.

** Some of the region's best young talent will be on show in the area finals of the Bill Turner Cup at NNSW headquarters on Wednesday. St Pius X Adamstown take on Kotara High in the Newcastle final at 10am. In the Lake Macquarie decider, Hunters Sports High meet Central Coast Sports High.

** Expect the phones of released Jets players to be ringing hot this week. The next NNSW NPL window opens on Tuesday and at least two coaches are keen to strengthen their roster.
