Mitchell, from Ballarat in Victoria, was unable to meet the javelin qualifying mark of 64 metres when she competed at the Festival of Athletics in Townsville at the weekend, but with a season best throw of 63.5 metres, which she hit on June 12, is still well placed to make the Australian Olympic team for Tokyo.
Mitchell's throw on the Gold Coast earlier this month was the 12th best of any athlete in the world this season, even better than Australian world champion Kelsey-Lee Barber who has a personal best this season 61.09m.
The international Olympic cut-off qualifying mark is on June 29 with Australian Olympic and athletics officials to meet in the days afterwards to select the team which will travel to Tokyo.

The javelin competition is open to the top 32 ranked athletics in the world with each country able to take up to three competitors. Mitchell's world ranking has her inside the top 32, but she will still require a discretionary selection which will be made after all automatic qualifiers have been chosen.
Former Ballarat Clarendon College student, King Island's Stewart McSweyn has qualified for a host of middle distance events.
Last September, McSweyn broke both Australian 3000m and 1500m records and is considered a leading medal chance.
