THE Jets have recruited their third central defender in the space of a week, in what appears a telling indication that they are preparing for life after Nikolai Topor-Stanley.

Newcastle have secured former Adelaide stopper Jordan Elsey on a two-season deal.
The 27-year-old, who has appeared in 124 A-League games, will join fellow new recruits Matt Jurman (Greece) and Riley Warland (Perth) at the Jets next season.
In addition, James Donachie, who the Jets loaned to Indian Super League club Goa last season, has been informed that he is a "required player" and is expected to honour his contract with Newcastle next season.
That means the Jets now have four central defenders on their roster, three of whom - Jurman, Elsey and Donachie - have played in more than 100 A-League games.
Newcastle parted company at the end of last season with skipper Nigel Boogaard (retired) and Lachlan Jackson (Korea), but Topor-Stanley expressed a desire on several occasions to play on.
Unlike a number of other departing players, he was not farewelled at the club's recent presentation night and was reported to be in negotiations with the club about extending his stay.
But it is hard to imagine the Jets would invest so heavily in central defenders if Topor-Stanley still featured prominently in their plans.
If he does not re-sign with the Jets, that will likely leave the veteran wrestling with the dilemma of finding a new club or hanging up the boots.
He turns 37 in March but would appear as fit as ever, having played in every minute of every game for Newcastle over the past four seasons. With 344 appearances, he is second only to Andrew Durante (358) as the most-capped player in A-League history.
The Herald tried to contact Topor-Stanley on Wednesday but received no reply.
But in an interview last month, he said he would "like to continue to keep on going".
"Whether that's at the Jets or not remains to be seen," he told the Canberra Times.
"I still feel like I'm contributing, not only contributing but I feel I have a lot to give at this level ... as long as my body and my mind allow me to continue, I'll put my hand up to keep going."
New Jets coach Arthur Papas described Elsey as "a very accomplished A-League player with a winning mentality".
"We identified Jordan as someone who possesses the characteristics to play our brand of football and also contribute positively to the leadership and expectations within our environment," Papas said.
Elsey said he was looking forward to "pushing myself and challenging myself in a new environment".
"Newcastle is a great place, with a wonderful stadium and passionate fan base," he said.
"I look forward to getting to know the supporters and filling the stadium. I am looking forward to joining my teammates and to work hard to make sure that next season is a positive one."
Meanwhile, the Jets have also announced their first foreign signing under Papas, after Georgian international striker Beka Mikeltadze agreed to a two-year-deal.
Mikeltadze joins the Jets from Greek club Xanthi and previously played in the Russian Premier League.
"He is a player we identified at the beginning of our recruitment process and is a player we feel fits very well into our system of play," Papas said.
"He is at an age where he is only going to improve, has plenty to offer both in attacking and defending and we are looking forward to welcoming him to Newcastle very soon."
Mikeltadze and Elsey are the latest names in a recruitment drive that has already lured Cameron Devlin, Dane Ingham, Jurman, Warland and Mohamed Al-Taay to Newcastle.
