Themed 'Driving principles of sustainability', the event will feature the Port of Newcastle among a panel of industry experts who will discuss the latest sustainability developments and environmental practices in ports across the Asia Pacific region.
Port of Newcastle chief executive Craig Carmody said the event would provide an opportunity to show how the port was leveraging its environmental, social and governance commitments to create a safe, sustainable and socially responsible operation.
"Partnerships and shared thinking are critical to Port of Newcastle's ability to find innovative ways to realise its long-term environmentally and socially responsible projects," he said.
"By collaborating with GreenPort we have a key opportunity to connect with and learn from port leaders across the globe who are also committed to leading the way in environmental management and sustainably operated ports."
GreenPort Live Australia is being produced in association with Port of Newcastle, the first port in Australia or New Zealand to become a member of the international EcoPorts network.
The certification followed a series of assessments by Lloyd's Register to measure the port against global best practice management.
Port of Newcastle has been encouraging other ports follow in its footsteps.
Next week's discussion panel will include Ports Australia chief executive Mike Gallacher and Port of Newcastle's senior manager of Environmental, Social and Governance Jackie Spiteri.
"Port of Newcastle has made great inroads to delivering against the environmental, social, governance targets and objectives set in our ambitious ESG strategy to date," she said.
"This presents an exciting opportunity for the Port, as an accredited EcoPort, to share its learnings and outcomes with a broad group of like-minded stakeholders."
Newcastle deputy Lord Mayor Declan Clausen will also give an insight into the City of Newcastle's perspective on how to successfully build a relationship between the port and the city with a sustainable lens.
GreenPort LIVE is a sister event to its cornerstone GreenPort Congress being held in Greece from 20-22 October 2021.
The panel is free to attend with registrations open now. Find out more or join the panel on Wednesday 1 September from 12pm - 2pm AEST on the event website.
