Lambton Pool was due to re-open weeks ago and most other aquatic facilities across Newcastle were set to start up again this month, but NSW public pools remain closed in line with the public health order.
The NSW government's roadmap to freedom outlines outdoor pools may reopen for vaccinated people from the Monday after NSW passes the 70 per double dose, expected to be mid-October.
But after last weekend's warmer weather which saw beach-side residents flock to coastlines, while those stuck in in-land council areas were left to swelter, Police Minister David Elliott called on the government to re-open outdoor council pools.

The Daily Telegraph reported Mr Elliott, who represents the Western Sydney electorate of Baulkham Hills, had asked the state government's crisis cabinet to re-open outdoor swimming pools with numbers capped based on the size of the facility.
A City of Newcastle spokesperson said plans to reopen local outdoor swimming centres "will be considered in accordance with NSW Government advice and relevant Public Health Orders".
"Newcastle and Merewether Ocean Baths remain open in line with the current Public Health Order which states that natural swimming pools may open," the spokesperson said.
Lake Macquarie Council has used the downtime to undertake works on multiple pools at Charlestown Swim Centre.
Works on the 25m pool began in April this year and are scheduled for completion in November. Maintenance of the 50m pool is being undertaken during the lockdown, including relining of pipes and installation of new seals and expansion joints. Works are expected to be complete by mid-October.
Works also started this week on a new indoor learn-to-swim pool at the centre, which is expected to open by April.
