The boy, who cannot be identified, was arrested in the backyard of a home in Parbury Road on Friday night, about an hour after two teenagers, both 16, were stabbed in the chest during an argument between two groups of youths.
The boy was later charged with murder and attempted murder and appeared briefly in Children's Court on Saturday, where he did not apply for bail.
The matter was adjourned to Children's Court on Monday, where he was again refused bail.
The matter was adjourned until November. Police say they found the boys suffering stab wounds near a home in Parbury Road about 8.20pm on Friday. Neighbours and police provided assistance before paramedics arrived, however one of the boys died at the scene. The other boy was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
