Labor leader Anthony Albanese said Dr Reid had been a part of the Central Coast community his entire life. He said Dr Reid was born in Gosford, attended Umina Beach Public School and Central Coast Grammar and has worked at Gosford, Woy Woy and Wyong hospitals.
"During the COVID-19 pandemic, Gordon Reid has been working on the frontline, side by side with his fellow healthcare workers in the emergency department of Wyong Hospital, to ensure his community got the protection and care they needed during this health crisis," he said.
"Gordon, like so many other frontline healthcare workers, knew this was always a race against the virus. He has experienced first-hand the realities of vaccine shortages and community concern on the Central Coast.
"As Labor's candidate for Robertson, Gordon will also fight for small businesses, struggling to survive the economic impacts of the pandemic, he will fight for better access to GP services, for public education and for the environment, especially to protect the ocean and amazing beaches."
Dr Reid said his campaign would be one of "new ideas and a better vision" for the area.
He said the Liberal Party had "forgotten and abandoned" the community's needs.
"They have denied us adequate access to healthcare, including the ability to access and afford a GP and the access to complete evidence based services through the NDIS. We need to fight for equitable, affordable and accessible healthcare for our Central Coast community."
