Police said they were called to George Booth Drive at Buchanan shortly before 8.30am on Tuesday after reports a car had left the road and struck a tree.
They found the body of a driver believed to be aged in his 40s. He is yet to be formally identified, but police have commenced an investigation and established a crime scene.
George Booth Drive has been closed in both directions between John Renshaw Drive and Richmond Vale Road, with diversions in place. Drivers have been warned to expect delays.
Separately a report will be prepared for the coroner after a woman died in a Tea Gardens crash on Monday.
Emergency services were called to Pindimar Road near Myall Way about 11.30am after reports a Nissan Dualis and Subaru Forrester were involved in a crash.
"Police have been told a woman stopped her Nissan Dualis on the shoulder of Pindimar Road, when it was struck by a Subaru Forrester," NSW Police said in a statement.
A 64-year-old woman, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
The Subaru's driver, a 46-year-old man, was trapped in the wreckage before emergency services freed him.
The man was flown to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
Crash investigators are calling for information or footage.
