An Australian team led by Sam Kerr will be fired up to atone for the one-sided scoreline against the back-to-back world champions in front of 36,109 fans at Stadium Australia on Saturday night.
It was the first time the Americans had played in Australia in 21 years and the nation turned out in force with a Matildas record crowd on home soil filling the stands.
That number of spectators surpassed the previous record of 33,000, which had stood since the Matildas played Sweden in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
Now, Newcastle has its chance to make it own history by bettering the city's Matildas crowd record of 16,829 people who watched them play Brazil in September 2017.
The Newcastle Herald understands ticket sales for Tuesday night's match with the USA have already passed that figure and the city is pushing for a sell-out crowd of 26,000.
That is the total amount of spectators allowable at the venue under current NSW health restrictions.
Newcastle's Emily van Egmond and Clare Wheeler both played in Saturday night's match against the world No.1 ranked side.
Van Egmond played the full 90 minutes and Wheeler came on in the 81st minute to earn her fourth Matildas cap.
Registered junior participants (12 years and under) in Northern NSW can access tickets to the game at McDonald Jones Stadium on Tuesday night for $5.
