Kirsty Fenton has been identified as a rising talent of the game with a place in the Future Matildas program, which helps develop the next generation of the nation's elite players.

The Blackalls Park 18-year-old has come through the Jets Academy to earn her first A-League Women's contract, and the defender is hoping to make the most of the opportunity.

Jets coach Ash Wilson describes her as "an up-and-coming talent" who she expects to grow into the game.

"She has got a lot of technical ability and is a forward-thinking player, so she could be someone who pushes to continue to create that challenging environment," Wilson said.

NH: What was your first club, and how old were you?

KF: I actually started out playing rugby union when I was six or seven. My brother and my mum were playing soccer then I got into it at Toronto Awaba when I was eight or nine.

NH: What do you do off the field?

KF: I've been doing my HSC and, now I'm finishing school, I am starting to look for a job. I am hoping to go into nursing or midwifery. On my rest days I'm just resting because I'm so drained. I'll clean my room, clean my car, get myself back together.

NH: What music, if any, is playing on game day?

KF: I just go with the flow. Whatever goes on the speaker and pumps everyone up. R&B pump-up or old-school vibe.

NH: What television series, if any, are you addicted to?

KF: I am obsessed with All American. Either that or Love Island.

NH: What can't you live without?

KF: My hair straightener. Without a hair straightener my hair just doesn't work. And coffee.

NH: Do you have any pre-match habits?

KF: I don't really have a specific thing. I just have a certain time when I have to eat.
