Police were called to a house in Orlong Close, Edgeworth at 11am on Saturday following a report that a 27-year-old woman had been assaulted.
Police found the woman had suffered facial bruising and arrested Kyle Beh,26, in the backyard.
Newcastle bail court heard Beh struggled violently as he was being led to the police truck.
An officer suffered a dislocated right shoulder and injuries to his right hand, lower back and groin.
A second officer was allegedly kicked three times in the face, suffering swelling and bruising as well as injuries to his right hand and elbow.
Beh was taken to Toronto Police Station where he was charged with 17 offences including six counts of common assault and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic violence).
He was also charged with assaulting an officer in the execution of duty, assaulting a police officer in the execution of duty causing actual bodily harm, resisting police, stalk/intimidate with the intention of causing fear or physical harm and destroying or damaging property.
The first officer was taken by ambulance to John Hunter Hospital where he was treated and underwent further tests.
The second officer was initially treated at the police station and continues to receive medical treatment.
Both officers are now at home and unfit for duty.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Wally Ball described the allegations against Beh as extremely disturbing and noted he had a history of violence and drug use.
Beh did not enter pleas to the charges when he appeared via video link in bail court on Sunday morning.
A registrar rejected a bail application from Beh's solicitor that involved a proposition that he be allowed to live with his parents and report to police daily.
He will reappear in Toronto court on Monday.
