Police charged a man with 25 offences as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged historical child sexual offences on Wednesday in the state's Lake Macquarie region.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually and indecently assaulted four children known to the man aged between seven and 15 years old at the time.
It will be further alleged that the incidents occurred around the Morisset, Windermere Park, Mirabook and Sunshine areas between 1994 and 2001.
The 58-year-old was arrested at a home at Windermere Park around 8.30am Wednesday and later charged at Toronto Police Station with five counts of sexual intercourse with a person aged 10 or under, four counts of aggravated sexual assault where the victims was under 16 years of age, six counts of assault with an act of indecency, eight counts of aggravated indecent assault with a victim aged under 16 years, committing an act of indecency with a person under the age of 16, and assault with intent of sexual intercourse with aged 10 to 14 under authority.
In early 2021, officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District's Child Abuse Unit commenced investigations after receiving reports of the alleged assaults.
The man was refused bail and will reappear at Toronto Local Court on Wednesday, February 2.
