The Silverchair frontman is alleged to have returned a breath analysis of 0.157 after a grey SUV exited a service centre northbound on the Pacific Highway, North Arm Cove and collided with a southbound van in the southbound lane about 10.30pm Wednesday.
Police allege Johns, 42, was driving the SUV. He was assessed at the scene by paramedics before police conducted a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station, where he underwent a breath analysis that returned an alleged reading of 0.157.
The driver of the van - a 51-year-old man - and a 55-year-old female passenger were treated at the scene; the woman was taken to John Hunter Hospital and has since been released.

"Alongside my therapy, I've been self-medicating with alcohol to deal with my PTSD, anxiety and depression. I know this is not sustainable or healthy," he wrote in the Instagram post.
"I have to step back now as I'm self admitting to a rehabilitation center and I don't know how long I'll be there. Appreciate your love and support as always."
Johns has been open about his mental health struggles, including suffering an anxiety disorder and anorexia.
