Jones was named in Newcastle's 24-man squad on Tuesday to play back row in the round-four clash at PointsBet Stadium.
The 23-year-old, who played 22 games last year, hasn't featured for the Knights in 2022, including in pre-season trials, due to a niggling thigh injury.
The Cessnock junior was named to take on Penirth last weekend but was withdrawn after contracting COVID.
Sauaso Sue will also make his first appearance of the year against the Sharks after being included on the interchange bench. The 29-year-old returns after off-season shoulder surgery.
Kalyn Ponga was named as expected to wear the No.1 jersey after being a late withdrawal from his side's last two games with a knee injury sustained in round one.
Tyson Frizell was listed to start in what will be his 200th NRL game despite picking up a minor knee complaint against the Panthers.
Jones and Sue's inclusions are a timely boost for the Knights given the likely loss of Mitch Barnett to suspension and Lachlan Fitzgibbon for two months to a knee injury.
His hearing is scheduled for Tuesday evening.
Newcastle face Cronulla at PointsBet Stadium at 6pm on Friday.
