David Anthony Callen, 48, has pleaded guilty to high-range drink driving over the crash at Tarro on December 17 last year and was expected to be sentenced in Maitland Local Court on Tuesday.

But, instead, the matter was adjourned for three weeks, when Callen is expected to learn his fate.

It was about 11pm on a Friday in December and Callen was driving along Anderson Drive near the intersection of Western Avenue when he crashed into the back of a parked Mercedes-Benz.

The impact forced the Mercedez into the back of a Haval H8, which was then pushed into the rear of a Hyundai IX35, according to court documents.

The crash caused extensive damage to Callen's Toyota, the Mercedez and the Haval, police said.

Police arrived a short time later and found Callen still sitting in the driver's seat.

He was checked by paramedics before being breath tested and returning a positive result.

He was taken to Maitland police station where he recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.317, more than six times the legal limit.

When asked about how much alcohol he had consumed, Callen replied: "I'm an alcoholic. I drink all the time. I drank a cask of wine", but was unable to go into specifics about when he had had his first or last drink before getting behind the wheel.

Due to the high-range reading Callen's license was suspended and confiscated on the spot and he was granted conditional bail to appear in Maitland Local Court in February where he pleaded guilty to high-range drink driving.

The charge carries a maximum of 18 months in jail.
