A MAN and woman charged with assaulting three police in Newcastle have taken the tally of people accused of violence against officers to at least three in as many days.

Emergency services were called to Long Crescent at Shortland about 4.10pm on Tuesday after reports of an altercation between a group of people.
Police arriving on scene spoke to a man and woman who it is alleged became abusive towards officers and refused to leave the premises.
"After the man allegedly grabbed an officer, he was restrained and continued to resist, kicking a sergeant and senior constable," NSW Police said in a statement.
Pepper spray was used and officers arrested the 30-year-old man.
As they did, it is alleged the woman tried to intervene and spat at officers before she pushed, kicked a senior constable and stole a set of handcuffs.
The 35-year-old was arrested after officers again used pepper spray.
The pair were taken to Waratah police station where they allegedly continued to act aggressively toward police and medical assistance was declined.
The three officers sustained minor injuries including swelling and abrasions, and all were affected by the pepper spray.
The man was refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday charged with two counts of assault officer in execution of duty and two counts of resist officer in execution of duty.
The woman received bail to face charges of assault officer in execution of duty and resist officer in execution of duty in court next month.
The incident follows two people charged at Hamilton South after a senior constable was allegedly threatened with a knife and an officer left with a fractured eye socket after he was allegedly punched during a Telarah traffic stop.
