Rising star Evans got his break in 2006 when he took out the Songwriter’s Prize at the Telstra Road To Tamworth competition and has since toured with the likes of US acts Taylor Swift and Brooks & Dunn. His debut single Big Skies topped the ARIA country charts and his two EPs have fans eager for his forthcoming debut album.
Local duo McAlister Kemp also took home the award for Australian Video of the Year for the title track of their album Country Proud.
Held at Hope Estate’s Great Cask Hall, the awards celebrate Australian country music and give fans the chance to vote for their favourite artists. They also cap off the first day of the three-day CMC Rocks The Hunter festival which is headlined by US acts Rascal Flatts and Big & Rich.
The McClymonts were crowned Oz Artist of the Year while Keith Urban was voted International Artist of the Year. Urban’s video For You was also named International Video of the Year. The LeGarde Twins were honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
